Russia. Joint issue of RCC countries. Architecture

02 Oct., 2015, press release

On October 2, 2015 Post of Russia issued a stamp "Vasnetsov House-Museum in Moscow" in a joint issue of the RCC countries "Architectural Monuments of capitals".

The artist Viktor Vasnetsov (1848-1926) and his family lived in this house in Troitsky Lane (now Vasnetsov lane) from 1894 to 1926. The house was built in 1894. The artist himself created the sketches of the building. The interiors of the Vasnetsov’s house were quite common for Moscow houses in the second half of the XIX century. Famous Vasnetsov’s "Wednesdays" gathered Moscow art intelligentsias in the living room of the house. Their participants were Ilya I. Repin, V. Serov, V. Polenov, V. Surikov, F. Shalyapin, families of trades Tretyakov and Mamontov. The main place in the house was the artist's studio, located on the second floor, where V. Vasnetsov completed his best paintings - "Ivan the Terrible" (1897) and "Bogatyrs" (1881-1898).
