Russia - Azerbaijan. Modern architecture. Joint issue
24 Sep., 2015, press release
On September 22, 2015 Post of Russia released two stamps dedicated to modern architectural objects in a joint issue with Post of Azerbaijan. Stamps represent both modern architecture and famous historical monuments of the two capitals, Moscow and Baku. The combination of these objects in one composition emphasizes the link of ages and generations, the connection of past and present. In particular, the stamps illustrate: Moscow river embankment and the walls of the Moscow Kremlin with a panorama of the business center Moscow City on the background and Baku’s Maiden Tower with Flame Towers on the background.
The Moscow Kremlin is a fortress in the center of Moscow, built in 1156. It is the oldest part of Moscow and the main social, political and historical complex of the city. It is the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation. The skyscrapers that have been built during the past 10-15 years are considered to be the main sights of Moscow as well as the old buildings in the city center. There are 87 buildings with a height exceeding 100m in Moscow at the moment.
The Maiden Tower (Giz Galasi) is one of the most majestic and mysterious monuments of Baku, known as a main symbol of the city. It is located in the south-eastern part of the fortress. The date of construction dates to XII century, although some of the buildings date back to VII-VI centuries B.C. Flame Towers are the highest buildings in Baku, constructed in 2012. The shape of the towers resembles flames.
