On November 5, 2015 Post of Russia will issue a stamp dedicated to Ivan Shelohvostov, the commander of the special force assault squad "Vityaz" in the "Heroes of the Russian Federation" series. The stamp illustrates a portrait of Ivan Shelohvostov and medal "Golden Star" with members of assault squad on the background.
Hero of the Russian Federation is the highest title given for services for the state and people, associated with the commission of a heroic feat. Hero of the Russian Federation is awarded with a special medal "Golden Star".
Ivan Shelohvostov (1978-2003) was the captain, commander of the special force assault squad "Vityaz". He was awarded with the title of Hero of the Russian Federation (after death) for bravery and heroism in the performance of military duty in the North Caucasus region. On February 4, 2003 during a special operation in Argun Ivan Shelohvostov’s group was shelled by militants. The group attacked the house occupied by armed bandits. Ivan Shelohvostov killed two militants, but he got injured by grenade fragments. He ordered subordinates to evacuate the injured while he stayed to cover the group’s withdrawal. When he was out of ammo, he pulled the pin of his last grenade and died, killing 14 militants.
