Germany 2012 100th anniversary of the "Blue Rider" artists' group Stamp MNH

Date of issue: 09 Feb., 2012

The "Blue Rider" group was founded in Munich in December 1911 by Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc. Its primary goal was to break free from the ossified traditions of academic painting. In addition to the founders, the group included August Macke, Marianne von Werefkin, Alexej von Jawlensky, and Paul Klee. Dancers and composers also participated in the group's activities. They were united by an interest in medieval and primitive art, as well as in the contemporary movements of Fauvism and Cubism.
